TLS/SSL certificates are used to verify identity and encrypt sensitive website data. For this reason, they must be validated before the certificate authority can issue them. After placing an order, the CA validation teams at GeoTrust work as quickly as possible to confirm your identity in order to issue your certificate. The lifecycle works like this:

• Create and submit your digital request (CSR)
• Complete identity validation
• Install your certificate
• Check your installation
• Set up management control in order to revoke, reissue, etc.
• Renew the certificate before expiry

Your certificate is issued as soon as the relevant validation process has been fully completed. The amount of validation required varies depending on the level of certificate you purchased.

For certificates with domain validation:

• Verification of domain ownership

For certificates with organization validation:

• Domain validation (as above)
• Organization registration and standing
• Address and phone validation
• Blocklist and embargo search
• Malware review

For certificates with extended validation:

• Domain and organization validation (as above)
• Organization name, type, registration number & jurisdiction, status
• Operational history
• Registered agent (if applicable)
• Organization fraud check
• Domain fraud check
• Contact blocklist check
• Confirmation of EV contact info, job title and employment via phone call
• EV subscriber agreement

Yes. The Multi-Year Plan Is available for GeoTrust certificates with organization and extended validation.

With a Multi-year Plan, GeoTrust TLS/SSL certificates can be purchased with a validity period of up to 72 months at the same price conditions.

The respective certificate is always valid for 397 days.

Depending on the purchased validity period – 24, 36, 48, 60 or 72 months – a free reissue must be carried out and the newly-generated TLS/SSL certificate must be exchanged on the server before the validity period of 397 days expires.

This can be done at the earliest 90 days before and at the latest one day before the end of the respective 397-day period.

Yes, a SAN package can be booked with GeoTrust certificates – whether OV or EV, allowing you to secure up to 200 domains in the standard certificate.

First a package with 4 SANs has to be booked. SANs that go beyond this, can be added separately. The wildcard must be booked in addition to the SAN package and is invoiced separately. The wildcard certificate can also be used as a SAN for the OV certificate.

The BasicSSL is a DV certificate that is ready for use in a few seconds by means of real-time issuance. We also offer the BasicSSL free of charge for up to 10 domains created and managed by InterNetX

The GeoTrust Secured Seal (powered by DigiCert) is used for the GeoTrust Quick SSL Premium and the GeoTrust True BusinessID Certificates.
